My name is Ana (aka Mrs Ana Banana) and I am the funder of My Swim School.
My swimming journey started as a one-year-old, when my mom took me to swim classes. I remember hating the class because the waves, made by all the adults jumping, used to scare me; but I learned pretty quickly to go under water, and to this day I love to be under water or floating!
I grew up being a part of a swim team in Colombia, where I am originally from. My coach used to tell me that I swam really pretty but I could not swim that fast. I got a lot of 'participation' medals, but I also made life long friendships and gained skills that I still use.
I have always loved kids and to entertain them and make them happy. I remember going to Summer Camps and how much fun it was. I wanted to be one of the counselors. I wanted to make other kids have that much fun.
After high school I moved to USA and started babysitting. It was the easiest and most rewarding job in the world at that time. Making a kiddo trust me and actually listen to me, having to come up with ideas to keep them entertained and learning was the best part.
Eventually I wanted a more 'grown up' job and that is how I became a swim instructor. I was hired at a very popular and great, South Florida swim school and was given the opportunity to learn all the ropes. From the front desk/ receptionist, to swim instructor, to managing one school, to being a regional manager of 4 schools. fell in love with it all! Training new instructors, opening new locations, talking to parents and becoming a little part of their family, teaching water survival and strokes, and my favorite, having a fearful student and seeing them become a confident swimmer, enjoying the water.
Fast forward a decade or so, I had the opportunity to start teaching my family, friends and neighbors and eventually God allowed me the opportunity to found My Swim School.
What started as a 'grown up job' and something 'fun' to do on my spare time, quickly turned into a passion of mine.
My Swim School has been open since 2016, but I have been an instructor for over 17 years now.
My Swim School is quickly growing. We had over 120 students come through the school last Summer alone. We have also transition from me, to us, as others have joined in our vision and mission. We are so excited to see what is still in store for us!
